Cleanup alternate executable names #26852

@sdwheeler

Description

@sdwheeler

Prerequisites

Steps to reproduce

Windows installs of PowerShell preview include $PSHOME\preview\pwsh-preview.cmd. The $PSHOME\preview path gets added to your $env:PATH. This makes it easier to run the preview version from a command launcher (shell prompt, Win+R, or Start Menu) when you have more than one version installed.

Bug:

  • This batch is included in both the stable and LTS packages. It should be removed.

Enhancement request

  • Create a similar command for the LTS package in $PSHOME\lts\pwsh-lts.cmd and add $PSHOME\lts to $env:PATH.

Adding the command for LTS will provide a more consistent launch experience for MSStore-based installations because it is possible to install all 3 versions from the Store.
